There's
a Reason Why Botox is So Popular
It's More Than a Wrinkle-Filler
Botox
Cosmetic was approved for cosmetic use in 2002, and since then it's
enjoyed a meteoric rise in popularity. Today it's the most sought-after
non-surgical procedure for facial rejuvenation. We use it to reduce
wrinkles above the eyebrows, around the eyes, below the mouth and
near the chin.
But it does more than take away wrinkles. By paralyzing facial muscles,
Botox clears away that tense, tight, hardened look that detracts
from the face's natural beauty. The result is a smoother, clearer,
more youthful face.
After all, facial aging isn't just about gravity and thinning facial
skin. Stress and tension are just as harmful. My patients who get
Botox Cosmetic around the eyes and forehead often tell me how utterly
amazed they are by the results. They were expecting nothing more
than relief from crow's feet or worry lines. What they got was both
more subtle and more encompassing.
Restoring Balance to the Features
They got their facial balance back! Relaxing their frown lines widened
the eyes and forehead area. When it comes to beauty, proportion
is everything. Change the proportions of upper, middle and lower
face and you can resolve many of the issues that result in what
our culture calls "fading beauty."
A Minor Procedure
The injections only take about 15 minutes, and you can return to
your normal life right away. The results gradually appear over a
seven to ten day period. It's like watching your younger face slowly
reappear in the mirror.
After a treatment the muscles will stay relaxed for about four to
six months. Botox must be refreshed regularly. The good news: for
as long as you are using Botox skin creases do not form, because
the muscles that cause creases are disabled.
Expressiveness Is Not Compromised
Many patients ask me: "Will I be able to frown, smile and use my
face to express my feelings after Botox injections?" Yes. I have
learned to study each patient's animation before injecting Botox,
and to apply the correct dosage in the correct spots so you still
have plenty of expressiveness.
Two Warnings
Botox Cosmetic is not right for everyone. It should not be used
by anyone who is allergic to botulinum toxin type A, is pregnant,
or is breast-feeding. If possible, do not take NSAIDS (anti-inflammatories)
for 10 days prior to treatment.
Another caveat: Never, ever attend a so-called "Botox party." There
are inferior grades of the toxin circulating that can harm you,
and only a licensed physician with knowledge of facial anatomy can
inject it properly.
I've been pleased to see what Botox has done for my patients, and
my patients have been delighted with their improvements, which usually
exceed expectations. Botox is one of the best low-impact facial
rejuvenators around. It's practically painless (a brief stinging
feeling), perfectly safe, and the rewards are immediate.
