For You
and for Him, Too
The PCA Body Peel
- Are your upper arms becoming dappled with age spots and unidentifiable
bumps?
- Does the skin on your hands tell a different story than your
facial complexion?
- Are you afraid to wear backless dresses because you're not sure
what's been growing back there?
- Have your upper thighs developed a scaly texture, especially
the area close to your posterior?
While
we all monitor the skin on our faces and necks constantly, most
women have a tendency to ignore the rest of their bodies. Maybe
it's because there's so much of it - who can keep track of all of
those areas?
Science Can Do A Lot for Body Skin
Medical science has come up with many ways to perfect skin, from
head to toe. The most basic treatment - a chemical peel - will exfoliate,
tighten and smooth skin all over, removing superficial blemishes
and leaving a silky texture.
Physician's Choice - Pure Ingredients
In our opinion, the body peels offered by Physicians Choice Advanced
Skin Care Systems beat them all. This company uses only natural
ingredients such as alpha and beta hydroxy acids, peptides, antioxidants
and advanced botanicals. Their products are 100% free of color additives,
synthetic fragrances and harsh alcohols.
Light to moderate in strength, PCA Body Peels can be undertaken
by anyone.
Specific Skin Types
There are three basic PCA Body Peel formulas, designed for three
different types of skin.
1. PCA PeelŽ Hydroquinone Free is for sensitive skin types,
ethnic skin, those allergic to hydroquinone or not looking to lighten
the skin.
2. PCA PeelŽ with Hydroquinone has a stronger lightening
ability; it will help even out the skin tone and undo certain symptoms
of sun damage.
3. PCA PeelŽ with Hydroquinone and Resorcinol is for
the most resilient skin types, and will provide more exfoliation.
This formula is good for more extreme skin imperfections (cystic
acne, extreme sun damage, and asphyxiated skin).
We will evaluate your skin, medical history, and other pertinent
information to determine which PCA chemical peel is the best for
you.
Here are some of the questions we hear most often from patients
considering getting a PCA Body Peel.
Q. What is resorcinol? Why use the PCA PeelŽ with Hydroquinone
& Resorcinol and who is an appropriate candidate?
A. Resorcinol is an antiseptic, antifungal, astringent and flaking
agent. The PCA PeelŽ w/HQ and Resorcinol is excellent on active
acne, smoker's skin, oily, thick, resilient skin and hand and arm
treatments.
Q. How irritating is a peel?
A. PCA peels are only slightly irritating. You may experience mild
burning or stinging, which is transient.
Q. When will I start "peelings", for how long and how much?
A. Everyone's experience will be different. However, on average,
you will see flaking by day two or three following the treatment.
It is possible to see flaking for up to five or six days. With all
Physician's Choice peels, only light to medium exfoliation will
be experienced.
Q. Can a person who is in the sun a lot receive a peel?
A. Yes, but only if they are compliant with using sunscreen protection.
Q. My skin is very thin. Why would I want to peel? Wouldn't that
make my skin thinner?
A. Quite the opposite. Thinning skin lacks sufficient levels of
collagen and elastin within the dermis, a deeper layer of skin than
the one reached with a chemical peel. In fact, your skin will feel
stronger and fuller after a chemical peel. It will be hydrated,
giving it a more plump, thicker appearance.
In addition, by stripping off dead cells, you'll begin receiving
more benefit from your collagen-building home care products, which
will be able to penetrate more deeply.
Q. Can someone using Retin-AŽ or AccutaneŽ have Physician's Choice
peels?
A. We generally recommend that Retin-AŽ use be stopped five days
prior to a peel and five days post treatment because of potential
irritation and uneven peel penetration.
AccutaneŽ users tend to have very dry and sensitive skin and need
to be treated only with peels that are appropriate for their skin
type. We have found that the Physician's Choice peel solutions
are AccutaneŽ friendly.
Q. What is the difference between PCA and glycolic peels?
A. Glycolic acid will dehydrate skin and make pores larger after
extended use. PCA uses lactic and citric acids which are skin-friendly
because they are natural constituents of your skin. Physician's
Choice peels moisturize and hydrate your skin, leaving it fresh,
soft and supple.
Q. How Long Does the Treatment Take?
The process usually takes less than an hour.
Q. What About Downtime?
There is generally little downtime after PCA chemical peels.
In short, PCA chemical peels are a safe and effective way to treat
skin imperfections, enhancing the vibrancy and youthfulness of your
whole body. You'll notice the difference right away, and the man
in your life will notice, too.
Post-Treatment Tips
- After receiving your chemical peel, you may experience some
light flaking in a few localized areas for up to five days and
slight redness for one to twelve hours.
- Although you may or may not actually "peel" during the first
one or two treatments, you will probably experience slight exfoliation
and your skin will feel tight and pulled.
- You should always follow the Home Care Regimen sheet we give
you.
- Do not apply any medications following treatment not recommended
by Anne, including AHA products.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat.
- Do not pick at or pull on any loosening or exfoliating skin.
This could potentially cause hyperpigmentation.
- Use the Pigment GelŽ we will give you twice a day to continue
lightening hyperpigmented areas.
- Discontinue the use of Retin-AŽ/RenovaŽ or DifferinŽ for seven
days after treatment.
- Do not have electrolysis, collagen injections, waxing or use
depilatories for approximately five days after the treatment.
For Two Days Following
- Do not apply ice or water to the treated areas.
- Do not put the face directly into a hot shower spray. Do not
use Jacuzzis, steam rooms or saunas.
- Do not go swimming or participate in activities that would cause
excessive perspiration.
- Do not use Buff-Puff's or other means of mechanical exfoliation.
- Do not direct a hair dryer onto the treated area.
- Stay cool! Getting heated internally can cause hyperpigmentation.
